MOVIE : "BASIC INSTINCT 2"

@@1/2

Team America: World Police (2004) Poster

Alright, the movie tanked at the Box Office last weekend... I guess Sharon Stone won't be able to revive her career by taking her clothes off afterall. As soon as I saw the trailer for this film, I thought it would be a total disaster (like, say, "Gigli" or "Swept Away" for example). It's actually not as bad as you would expect it to be. The movie is bad (with many cheezy lines), okay, but somewhat entertaining and stylish. I must also say that Stone looks incredible for a 48-year old woman (even if it was accomplished with some plastic surgery, some implants, etc.). The film is definitely nowhere near as good or as original as its predecessor but definitely not the worst movie I've seen lately.

MOVIE : "THANK YOU FOR SMOKING"

@@@@1/2

Team America: World Police (2004) Poster

This satirical comedy is based on a best-selling novel and follows the story of Nick Naylor, a Big Tobacco's chief spokesman, who spins on behalf of cigarettes while trying to remain a role model for his twelve-year-old son. The entire cast is outsdanding (even Katie Holmes isn't all that bad this time)... Aaron Eckhart seems like he was born to play this character. This movie is smart, hilarious and definitely edgy. I had been looking forward to this film for quite a while and I was not disapointed. This is by far, the best film I have seen this year and probably since "Lord of War" last fall. You might also find similarities between the two... don't miss this one (opens April 7th at AMC Forum 22)

CD : PINK - "I'm Not Dead"

@@

Team America: World Police (2004) Poster

Alright, Pink is not dead, she's back with her 4th album. This new cd is okay and everything you would expect from this pop star with attitude... no big surprises. Half the record isn't all that great in my opinion. I'm not sure this will be the album which will fly her back to superstardom status. Her first single, "Stupid Girls" is not a great song at all, but the video is funny and makes people talk. And can I say that this CD cover is one of the ugliest I have seen in quite a while. Wow !

CD : MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE - "Life on the Murder Scene"

Thanks to their debut album "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" (which included hits like "I'm not Okay" and "Helena"), My Chemical Romance begame big very quickly. The SPIN readers voted vor them as favorite band of the year in 2005... beating other bands like Nine Inch Nails and Green Day. So why not release a live CD & DVD collection ? That's what they did. The result is alright with a few unreleased songs and demo versions. For big fans of their debut cd only !

CD : YEAH YEAH YEAHS - "Show Your Bones"

I am a big fan of their hit "Maps" off their debut record. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to hear the full Cd. This time, I listened to their 2nd cd, featuring the great first single "Gold Lion". The critics are pretty much unanimous... hailing it as the best CD of the year so far. Their music will grow on you. I, personally, am obesessed with track #2, a song called "Way Out", great song... awesome instrumental !

MOVIE : "ICE AGE : THE MELTDOWN"

Team America: World Police (2004) Poster

Alright, I was entertained. This movie is cute and funny, just like the original. No wonder kids (and lots of grown ups) love it! It was fun that they brought some new characters in, voiced by Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, etc. Once again, Scrat, running after his nuts, steals the show. His scenes are hilarious, I could watch a whole movie with that little thing. I was also a big fan of the species of mini-sloths.
